Growing up in a large city, Sifu Ross was inspired to begin martial arts training at age 14 , after being mugged by a group of larger , older boys. Inspired by the old Joe Jitsu charector in the Dick Tracy comic's he was inspired to learn an art which could provide him with a reasonable means of self defense against larger stronger opponents. Although he did go through a growth spurt there after , due to this experience he still sought out martial arts instruction. In time, the anger and desire for revenge gave way to a sincere appreciation of the martial arts and the way of life they offered. Sifu Ross has over thirty years experience in the martial arts. Sifu Ross holds Black belt ranking in several styles of Japanese and Okinawan martial arts. Holding Dan (Black Belt) Ranks In Jujutsu as well as Karate and has spent significant periods of time training in other arts such as Western Boxing, Yang style and modern Tai Chi Chuan and weaponry. He is a member of the international Hoplology society, and in the past has served as moderator for the Sabaki full contact fighter forum and has authored numerous articles relating to martial arts and it's history. Having developed extensive experience in both the practical and competitive sides of the martial arts he noticed that although many of these arts were excellent in their own right and for the purpose intended,
he still felt that none truly fit the bill of being both a means of personal development and Practical self defense for the average person. The average person being the type who does not have four or five hours to spend in the gym, with perhaps a couple additional hours benching the stack of the universal machine. He or she, works many thankless hours to feed a family and in the end , maybe has a few hours for themselves per week.
Although Sifu Ross had experienced two other versions of Wing Chun over the years, he felt they unfortunately held no more promise than that which he had been studying. That was, until he had the good fortune to meet and be accepted as a student by Sifu Chan Hing Fai. It was Sifu Chan's ability, depth of knowledge and quality of heart as a person which convinced Sifu Ross to seek him as a teacher.
After a number of trips on top of his years of observation and introspection , Sifu Ross came to the conclusion that the nature and theories of Wing Chun as he was now learning, allowed for the greatest adaptation for use by the average person regardless of their size or physical limitations. He then began to concentrate his study on training and teaching Wing Chun Gung fu which he regards as the capstone to all his studies.

He was a certified Full instructor of the Ip Ching United States Wing Chun Association and has since followed his teacher into his formation of the International Wing Chun Martial Arts Association. The Luk San Mo Gwoon is a proud member and supporter of this organization and it's purpose, and Sifu Ross is a dedicated student of Master Chan Hing Fai (Sam).
